An interesting and stimulating social programme will be organized during the conference and will be available to fully registered participants without additional charge. It is foreseen to have the
Welcome Mixer on Tuesday, September 19, 2017 evening at the conference site: An informal reception to break the ice between the newly arrived conference participants and to welcome them with a taste of Viennese hospitality.
A walking tour will follow the path of “The Third Man”, a smuggler who is making his obscure deals in after-war Vienna and at the same time probably one of the best known films of all times. The scene where Orson Wells (as Harry Lime) is hasting through Vienna’s underground sewage water system is one of the most iconic in film history. Also the music, created by the Viennese zither player Anton Karas has become a trademark since. And for sure we will see Vienna from a perspective never seen before.
On Wednesday evening, an Evening Reception in the beautiful Cupola Hall of the Naturhistorisches Museum (Museum of Natural History) in relaxed atmosphere will let us recover from the hard work and discussions of the day and allow to pick up breathtaking views of the city center.
The Conference Dinner on Thursday, September 21, 2017 will take us to one of the typical Viennese wine taverns called “Heuriger”. The “Heuriger” denotes in Vienna and surroundings the young wine harvested in the previous year, as well as the traditional taverns where it is sold. Although located within the city boarders, the locations where the Viennese wine is produced have still preserved the character of charming villages such as Grinzing, Neustift or Stammersdorf and give the promise of a joyful evening in casual atmosphere with white win, hearty food and great company.
Busses will bring us back to the city center at the end of the evening.
A wide variety of guided tours to touristic attractions within and in the nearer surroundings of Vienna are organized by the Vienna Tourist Information Office on a regular basis and can be booked as pre- or Post Conference Tours separately through the VTIO’s website:
Also, Vienna’s theaters, opera houses and concert halls start their season again in the beginning of September. In case you are interested to attend a performance and experience an unforgettable cultural event, early booking is recommended !
